Travel with Sylvia S. Rose and her faithful dog Meadow on a road trip through some of the most scenic areas of America and Canada. Sylvia and Meadow, a yellow Lab, set out in Sylvia's Subaru Outback, pulling a 13-foot Scamp trailer, rolling nearly 35,000 miles, camping their way through the United States and western Canada. They began in late June, driving north via Vancouver Island to Prince Rupert BC, taking the Marine Highway Ferry up the Inside Passage, getting on and off along the way to Seward AK, and then driving up to Denali National Park. Heading south, they took the Alcan Highway through the Yukon Territory and British Columbia, re-entering the lower 48 in Glacier National Park. Following autumn color, they crossed Montana and the Dakotas, focusing on historic Indian cultural sites, going east as far as Niagara Falls, and then south for the winter. Sylvia's visit to Charleston SC included a two-week stop to work on a Habitat-for-Humanity housing project before traveling south to the tip of the Florida Keys.
In early spring Sylvia and Meadow headed west, up along the Mississippi River, stopping at Memphis, the Natchez Trace, St. Louis, Oklahoma City, San Antonio, Big Bend National Park, and the Carlsbad Caverns. In New Mexico and Arizona they visited Indian Country, taking in the sights, sounds, and scents of the great American desert and some of the high plateaus on the west side of the Rockies. In April, 10 months after starting out, they made their final stop in Yosemite Valley, enjoying waterfalls in full flow and dogwood trees in bloom.
A long-time resident of Concord and Walnut Creek, Sylvia has traveled and photographed extensively and resided for extended periods of time in Japan, Israel and Switzerland. Come join us to see and hear more about this 10-month, 35,000 mile adventure. Send a check for $15.50 to
