Volunteer opportunities
Regardless of your Sierra Club or related experience (or lack thereof) - have we got something for you to do! Volunteer opportunities abound, from helping lead outdoor adventures (big and small) to lobbying on important local environmental issues, to lending a hand at our Chapter Office. You decide - it all depends on your interests and how much time you can spare from your busy life. You need no special expertise to get started - only a genuine interest in getting involved. For ideas, check the examples below. For more opportunities (many more!), contact Chapter administrative assistant at the Chapter Office or call (510) 848-0800, ext. 315

Politically engaged volunteers
The Northern Alameda Group is looking for members residing in our area to serve on our Conservation and Executive Committees. Both committees meet in the evening on the fourth Monday of each month. The Group considers environmental issues in the cities of Oakland, Berkeley, Albany, Emeryville, Alameda, Piedmont, and San Leandro. These issues can include housing, parks, energy, transportation, air quality, environmental justice, and natural-resource protection. Another function of the Executive Committee, which is elected by the membership every fall, is to consider political endorsements. We are seeking volunteers who are engaged or want to be engaged in their local community, and who have the necessary patience, tolerance for long meetings, and communication skills to be good committee members and Club representatives. Interested volunteers please contact Northern Alameda County Group chair Kent Lewandowski or (510) 547-1207.
If you live elsewhere, your own local group needs similar help.
Summer picnic volunteers
It's already time to start planning the Chapter's annual Volunteer Appreciation Barbecue and Picnic. We need volunteers to help plan the party, spread the word, and solicit donations. Particular assistance is needed in soliciting donations for food and beverages. This requires regular follow-up, detailed tracking, and extensive outreach. It is preferred for this work to be done from the Chapter Office at 2530 San Pablo Ave. in Berkeley. For more information and to volunteer, contact or call (510) 848-0800, ext. 323
Web design and programming
If you are a web designer/programmer or graphics professional, work with JavaScript or PHP, or have graphic skills creating images and art, and can spare some time to volunteer your services, please contact our or phone (510) 848 0800 ext 313
Leaders sought for SF outings
The San Francisco Group is seeking leaders for outings in San Francisco to highlight the Group's conservation efforts. These might include the Presidio and the city's various natural areas. Please contact Group conservation chair Steven Chapman at steven@sfwild.net or (415) 552-5299.
Yodeler Photo Contest
What's happened to the Yodeler Photo Contest? Why hasn't it happened this year? The fact is that we need some more volunteer energy to help put it on. If you're interested in working on it, please call Anne Seasons at (510) 295-4292.
Retired? Want a challenge?
Volunteer at the Club's national headquarters in downtown San Francisco (one block from BART and Muni); contribute your experience to help us come to grips with the environmental problems of the next century. You'll meet new people with similar interests; have access to computers, the Internet, and one of the best environmental libraries in the country; and expand your own interests while sharing your time and skills. Experience is useful in just about any field. We can use skills at translating from English into a wide range of languages. In addition, we need a volunteer to help with administrative support including filing, copying, and some light correspondence and Internet searches. For details, call Michele Perrault at (415) 977-5670.
