San Francisco Dinner: "Trek to Everest Base Camp"
Thursday, May 21, social hour - 6 pm, dinner - 7:00, show - 8:00, at City Forest Lodge, 254 Laguna Honda Boulevard, San Francisco (across from Laguna Honda Hospital and downhill from Forest Hill station: take Muni's K, L, M, or 43; come early for street parking - no sidewalk parking please.)
Join Rich McDrew and his daughter Megan for a slide presentation and talk documenting their recent trek to the Everest Base camp (elevation 17,437 feet) in Nepal.
Rich and Megan embarked on their 15-day, 75-mile hike in the spectacular snow-covered Nepalese Himalayan Mountains with one guide and one sherpa porter from Katmandu. From the remote mountain town of Lukla (elevation 9,350 feet), their trek took them into the Khumbu region of Nepal. They followed an ancient route past tiny villages and monasteries, across high mountain passes, and through remote valleys to the peak of Kala Pattar, a mere six miles from Everest.
For Rich, age 67, this journey into the world's most impressive mountain range created lasting memories and instilled a sense of accomplishment. For Megan, the journey imparted a love for Nepal and a deep reverence for the silent powers of Mother Nature.
