Marin cities to sign on for Clean Energy

On Aug. 20 Fairfax, through unanimous vote of its Town Council, became the first Marin municipality to prove its vision and leadership in the struggle against global climate change by approving participation in the Marin Clean Energy plan. If you live in Marin County, help make sure that your city or town is next!

Marin Clean Energy is the innovative plan to bring Marin to using at least 50% renewable electricity by 2014. The plan will allow a body of Marin elected officials to determine the best sources of electrical generation and contract the county's service out to the cheapest and greenest provider. PG&E would continue to provide customer service and maintenance of transmission lines, as well as power for any residents and businesses that wish to opt out of Marin Clean Energy.

This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for Marin to lead the nation in creative and affordable solutions to global warming. This winter each of the other 10 town and city councils in Marin, as well as the Board of Supervisors representing unincorporated areas, will vote on participation. PG&E doesn't want to lose thousands of customers, and so is lobbying your City Council to try to dissuade it from participating in Marin Clean Energy. Your elected officials need to hear from you.
