Priority Campaign Update
Still time to volunteer in November 4 election
In many ways, the election on Tue., Nov. 4, is the most important election for the Bay Area in 20 years. The Sierra Club is campaigning in dozens of local races; all will make a difference, and a few are of special long-term significance for the whole region.
WW for East Bay Parks
East Bay voters get to decide: will they renew the funding that has enabled the East Bay Regional Park District to become one of the world's greatest? These parks are not only beautiful escapes from daily life, but they help to define not just the East Bay but the entire Bay Area.
Few, if any, other urban areas in the world have so much natural open space so close to home; our unique park system makes the Bay Area a more desirable place to live, increases property values and thus school revenues, and makes it easier for companies and institutions to recruit and retain world-class talent.
Measure WW requires a 2/3 majority, and if it fails, our park system will lack the funding to keep up with the growth of population and development.
Help make sure that 20 years from now the Bay Area is an even better place to live - come out and help us spread the word. Vote and volunteer for Measure WW.
San Francisco - Supervisors and a solution to global warming
San Francisco is also facing a watershed election. The environmentally friendly, neighborhood-oriented supervisors elected in 2000 are termed out, and corporate interests are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to elect conservative replacements who favor over-development of the waterfront and relaxation of local environmental regulations, and who would cut spending on Muni. We are working to elect supervisors who will make priorities of parks and public transit, renewable energy, preservation of nature, and affordable housing.
Proposition H is an historic opportunity to make a game-changing step to solve global warming. Prop H will transition San Francisco to 100% renewable, affordable power by the year 2040 and will create a green-energy industry in the Bay Area. PG&E is trying to stop Prop H - spending $10 million in a campaign of deception. Supporters of clean energy, in contrast, need to rely on volunteers to spread the facts.
