Bay Chapter seeks members for Nominations and Elections Committee
Help extend Sierra Club's tradition of democratic leadership
The Sierra Club has a unique tradition of volunteer leadership. Unlike practically any other large organization, our key decisions are made by volunteer
leaders - not staff - and the key decision-makers at the local level are the Chapter and group Executive Committees, which are elected by a vote of our membership.
That's why the members of the Chapter's Nominations and Elections Committee are so important. The committee's role is to administer the elections fairly, including:
- recruiting an appropriate number of qualified candidates for the Chapter ExComm;
- encouraging each group to recruit enough candidates;
- working with the Yodeler editor to prepare the Chapter election supplement;
- finding ways to increase member participation in the election.
You don't need to be an insider to fill this role. Committee members need to be persistent and persuasive about contacting people and recruiting them.
It's a great chance to get to know lots of wonderful Sierra Club leaders and potential new ones.
If you are interested in volunteering, contact incoming Committee chair Matt Morrison at (925)413-6213
or email mattmorrisonus -at- yahoo.com
It's already time to get started planning next year's elections. Please call now to volunteer.
