San Francisco Dinner
"Alaska: Rafting the Majestic Alsek River and Beyond"
Thursday, April 17, social hour 6 pm, dinner 7, show 8 - City Forest Lodge, 254 Laguna Honda Boulevard, San Francisco (across from Laguna Honda Hospital
and downhill from Forest Hill Station; take Muni's K, L, M, or 43); come early for street parking (no sidewalk parking please).
Nadia Le Bon, currently polar-program director at Mountain Travel Sobek in Emeryville, says, "The Alsek River is one of those incredible wilderness experiences
that changes you forever. I have travelled all over the world, but I have never seen such a majestic display of glaciers, snow capped peaks, lush forests, grizzly bears in
the distance and abundant wildflowers of every color all at once. Every bend of the river brings a more dramatic view, framed by brilliant light and powerful winds. And
it's not just rafting, as there are several spectacular hikes that give you even grander views. To top that, one can take an amazing eight-minute helicopter ride over
Turnback Canyon. There is so much more to do in Alaska, from kayaking with whales to hiking along the caribou migration routes. So let's go explore it!"
Nadia was born and reared in Italy, where she started her adventure travel career as a guide in the Himalayas. After moving to the States in 1984, she joined
Mountain Travel Sobek, the pioneer adventure-travel company, where she has held various management positions and had the opportunity of exploring the remote corners of
the world. On weekends she can be found kayaking on the Bay or hiking on Mount Tamalpais.
