Mount Diablo Group: "Bones, Bones, Bones" with Roadkill Nancy
Wednesday, September 12, 7 pm, Winslow Center, 2590 Pleasant Hill Road (at Taylor Boulevard), Pleasant Hill.
Join us for the next general meeting of the Mount Diablo Group to meet "Roadkill Nancy" Valente and view her collection of skulls, bones, and skins from
various native California animals.
Valente is a zooarcheologist. In the course of her work, she is called upon to identify and analyze faunal bones recovered from archeological sites uncovered
during modern construction and development projects. These sites may be either prehistoric or historic in age.
To identify the remains unearthed, Valente maintains her own skeletal reference collection. It is from this collection, and the unconventional ways in which it
is gathered, that Valente has earned the nickname "Roadkill Nancy".
Don't miss this exciting talk and demonstration - a hands-on experience you won't soon forget!
Valente, a skilled interpreter, regularly presents public programs at Muir Woods National Monument.
