Adding Willis property to El Cerrito's Hillside Natural Area

One of the great community assets of El Cerrito ("Little Hill" in Spanish) is its Hillside Natural Area. North of the existing area is the 15-acre Willis or Vitale property. This open space includes two natural springs and two creeks that support a wide variety of native wildlife and plants.

A group known as the El Cerrito Hillside Organization seeks to save this land from development. The Sierra Club supports the effort and has offered to help ECHO in its work. If the East Bay Regional Park District goes forward with a renewal of its Measure AA land-acquisition measure, a share of the money would go to El Cerrito and should be used for addition of this property to the Hillside Natural Area.

To work with the Sierra Club's West Contra Costa Group on this concern, contact conservation manager or call (510) 848-0800, ext. 307.

For more information see the ECHO web site.
