Chapterwide elections coming for Executive Committees
Candidate applications due by Thursday, August 9
In November the San Francisco Bay Chapter, Sierra Club, will hold elections for the Chapter and eight group Executive
Committees (ExComms). Members are encouraged to consider candidacy for themselves, nominate another member, or volunteer
for the Nomination/Elections Committee.
ExComms
The Bay Chapter ExComm oversees a sizable annual budget, 20 full-time and part-time staff, and this newspaper, as well
as facilitating the work of hundreds of volunteers. Every ExComm member is expected to be actively involved in some
aspect of the Chapter's work from administration and conservation to fundraising. Substantial time commitment between
meetings is the norm. This is not an entry-level job; some knowledge of how the Sierra Club works is essential.
Group ExComm members organize meetings and activities for their members, no matter how large or small the group.
ExComm members at either level must attend regular meetings, determine Sierra Club positions on many critical
environmental issues, and take an active part in making the Chapter or group function well.
Please volunteer yourself or another member.
Candidates
To be a candidate for the Chapter or a group Executive Committee, to nominate someone who would make a good ExComm
member (Chapter or group), or to volunteer for the Nominations and Elections Committee, contact committee members Becky
Evans (West Bay) at (415) 775-3309 or Matt Morrison (East Bay) at (925) 413-6213; or e-mail the committee at
elections -at- sfbaysc.org
Candidates must be members in good standing of the Sierra Club San Francisco Bay Chapter. Candidates for group ExComms
must be members in good standing of the group. (Each Sierra Club member is automatically assigned as a member of the
chapter and group corresponding to their address, unless they have specifically requested otherwise.)
To be considered for nomination, applications are due at the Chapter Office by 5:00 pm on August 9. The Nominations
Committee will respond to applications by Aug. 16. Candidate statements are due from all nominees by 5:00 pm on August 29.
Candidates not nominated by the committee can run by petition. Petition forms and instructions are available at the
Chapter Office, 2530 San Pablo Ave., Berkeley, (510) 848-0800. The deadline for receipt of petitions and candidate
statement from petition candidates is Wed., Aug. 29.
Ballots will be distributed to Chapter members as a supplement to the November-December Yodeler.
Results will be certified at the December meeting of the Chapter Executive Committee and printed in the following
Yodeler.
