Bike to Work Day

You too can bike to work

Thursday, May 17.

Gas was up, my weight was up. I decided to bite the bullet and ride at least three times a week, even if I had to get up earlier.

Anything up to 15 miles is very do-able on a bike if you schedule properly. My commute is eight miles. By car it takes half an hour during commute times; by bus it's 50 minutes including the walk. By bike it's 50 minutes. Counting the extra 20 minutes each way as time I should be exercising anyway, I don't really lose any time. Rather than losing money to big oil, I'm losing weight!

Join in. A great day to get started or re-energized with biking to work is - Bay Area Bike to Work Day on Thu., May 17.

The Chapter is sponsoring "Energizer Stations" during the morning commute, from 7 - 9, at El Cerrito Plaza BART on the bikeway, and in downtown Oakland. We'll have juice to re-energize your biking muscles and information about bicycling and environmental issues to energize your mind. At El Cerrito we'll have an electric bike for you to try, courtesy of the Electric Bike Network.

Want to join us? Contact or call (510) 848-0800, ext. 304.
