San Francisco Dinner
"The Mystery and Magic of Machu Picchu"
Thursday, May 17, social hour 6 pm, dinner 7, show 8 - City Forest Lodge, 254 Laguna Honda Boulevard, San Francisco (across from Laguna Honda Hospital
and downhill from Forest Hill Station; take Muni's K, L, M, or
43). Come early for street parking (no sidewalk parking please).
Join an arm-chair journey to Peru's most-famed destination, the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. JP Torres will share his slide show of this trek, combining a stunning
mix of Inca ruins, mountain scenery, and lush cloud-forest exploration.
The four-day guided trek on the Inca Trail averages seven to eight hours a day of walking over the 21 miles and is considered moderate to challenging due to
its steepness and elevation. Warmiwanusca, the highest pass, is at 13,800 feet. Only daypacks are necessary, as porters, well-paid and well-treated, carry the camping
gear and food. The morning arrival at Machu Picchu is spectacular, and after a night at Aguas Calientes at the foot of Machu Picchu, the group returns for a second
unhurried day of exploration of this magical site. At 3 pm a train carries them back to Cuzco.
Don't miss this spectacular journey. Reservations are required for this exciting evening (no attendance for program
only). Non-members are welcome. Mail check for $13.50 made out to "Sierra Club, S.F. Bay Chapter" to
