CCA elsewhere
Fresno
In the Fresno area, a group of 13 municipalities combined under the Kings River Conservation District has recently
approved an Implementation Plan that commits to an accelerated 20% renewables by 2010 (seven years ahead of the state's
goal), but makes no greater green-power commitment beyond 2010, and includes public investment in a natural-gas-fired
power plant.
Sonoma County
Sonoma County local governments have recently funded a Climate Action Plan to
use Community Choice, transportation, water, and agricultural policies to achieve
a whopping 25% greenhouse gas reduction by 2015.
San Luis Obisbo
The Sierra Club's Santa Lucia Chapter has created a "SEA Change" - Strategic Energy
Alliance, bringing together a remarkable coalition to work for Community Choice energy.
The alliance includes the Chamber of Commerce, Air Pollution Control District, San Luis Obispo County Board of
Supervisors, SLO Green Build, California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obisbo (Cal Poly), Home Builders
Association, and even PG&E.
They have held a Smart Energy Solutions Summit introducing Community Choice to 350 local residents. Campus groups
brought New York Times award-winning science writer Andrew Revkin to speak on climate change and to participate
in a round-table discussion that included Sierra Club California energy and global-warming co-chair Ken Smokoska. The
Chamber of Commerce has just formed a Sustainability and Resources Task Force, chaired by a smart-growth advocate. SLO
Green Build is holding a series of energy-planning workshops for elected officials and planners for a CCA Implementation
Plan and a new energy element in the county General Plan. The Santa Lucia Chapter is undertaking a $500,000 capital
campaign for Community Choice and smart energy solutions.
