Wilderness First Responder and WEMT Upgrade coursesSteve Donelan will be teaching two advanced wilderness first-aid courses in the spring at Piedmont Adult School. 10, 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm; An 80-hour professional-level course that trains you to understand and avoid wilderness hazards and cope with emergencies anywhere. No prerequisites, but you will need to show certification in CPR Pro or BLS-HCP before graduating. We use vivid slides, interactive teaching methods, and realistic scenarios to bring the topics to life. You will learn how to assess injuries and medical or environmental problems, and do emergency care with both standard and improvised equipment. Skills practice is intensive. Our instructors work with you individually and in small groups to help you put your skills together and develop your leadership abilities. Wilderness EMT UpgradeTuesdays and Thursdays, May 22 - June
21, 7:00 - 10:00 pm; A 45-hour hands-on course that trains EMTs to do emergency care in wilderness situations. To receive the national WEMT certification, participants must be currently certified as EMTs, or have recently completed an EMT-I course. Other medical professionals may take the course and receive CEs for the hours attended.
