East Bay Dinner: "Wildflower Walks on the Sonoma Coast"

Thursday, February 22, no-host cocktails/social hour - 6 pm, dinner - 7:00, program - 8:00, Berkeley Yacht Club on the Berkeley Marina, one block north of the west end of University Avenue (ample free parking is available in the Marina parking lots).

Come join Walter Earle in a slide show focusing on the most interesting places to walk and observe our bounty of flowering plants along the Sonoma County coast. While the beaches of the region are among the most heavily used in the state, people are missing fine walks, just beyond the beaches, along and near the coast. These locations, including the Kortum and Pomo Trails, provide beautiful surprises, and the trails and meadows are not crowded. Walter will take us to these and also to Salt Point State Park, each of which provides a wide variety of habitats to explore. The North Trail Pygmy Forest hike will take us through several different forest types and will provide views of unusual plants such as the camas (Camissia quamash) and coast lily (Lilium maritimum).

Walter Earle and Margaret Graham are the founders of Mostly Natives Nursery in Tomales. For many years Walter has observed, photographed, propagated, and promoted native plants, in particular those that grow along the coast. He is also a past president of the Milo Baker Chapter (Sonoma County) of the California Native Plant Society.
