"Decoding the Marin Countywide Plan"

Thursday, November 30, 7 - 9 pm, San Rafael Corporate Center, Tamalpais Room, 750 Lindaro St., San Rafael.

The Campaign for Marin, consisting of members of the Sierra Club Marin Group and other major county environmental organizations, is sponsoring an evening on the Marin Countywide Plan and its environmental implications. The Marin Group is co-sponsoring the event.

County community development director Alex Hinds and Terry Watt, consultant to the county on the Countywide Plan, will describe the plan process and contents. Members of the Campaign for Marin will describe major environmental and development issues in the plan.

Those who attended the campaign kick-off on Aug. 27 and saw the provocative skit "The Da Vinci Plan" probably have some questions:

  • what is in the Countywide Plan?
  • what does it mean for me and the future of Marin?
  • how can I get involved in shaping it?
  • what do the 18 pyramids mean?

The program will answer these questions and help activists organize effectively.

Speakers will include:

  • Barbara Salzman, Marin Audubon Society, on natural-resource protection;
  • Gordon Bennett, Sierra Club Marin Group, on agriculture and creeks;
  • Marge Macris, Sierra Club Marin Group, on commercial development and traffic;
  • Tim Rosenfeld, Marin Conservation League, on energy and green building.

Ann Thomas of Marin Baylands Advocates will be the moderator.

Space is limited, and reservations are required. To sign up or get more information, contact Ann Thomas at athomas1 -at- pacbell.net or (415) 924-9559; Priscilla Bull at Pril2 -at- aol.com or (415) 461-1918; or Marge Macris at mmacris -at- aol.com or (415) 381-6667.

The Marin Group is also holding an environmental authors night on Thu., Nov. 2
