Vote yes on Measure Q for Castro ValleyVoters in Castro Valley have the opportunity to vote "yes" on Measure Q. This will allow the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (HARPD) to set aside some of the last remaining open space in Castro Valley to create parks and recreation areas. The primary purpose of the measure is to purchase a 24-acre parcel between Carlton and Stanton Avenues, currently owned by the East Bay Municipal Utility District. If there are funds left over, the community can choose to use them for other properties. The measure will create a tax of $16 per $100,000 of assessed valuation (not to be confused with market value). Property-owners who pay this tax can deduct it from their income for state and federal taxes. HARPD will set up an independent oversight/advisory committee of Castro Valley residents to ensure that funds from the tax are properly used. For more information, see cvparks.com
