Elect Carol Dutra-Vernaci in Union City

The Sierra Club again endorses incumbent Carol Dutra-Vernaci for City Council in Union City. She continues to be an excellent choice.

Carol remains a solid supporter of smart growth in Union City, including transit-oriented development at the future intermodal station. (It will combine BART, bus, Capitol Corridor, Dumbarton Rail, and future ACE and high-speed rail). In the next few months Union City will be selecting a developer for the station area, and Carol's support will be crucial to ensure higher-density mixed-use development there rather than suburban sprawl. Carol is accessible, and responsive to the Club's concerns. With three incumbents plus a former councilmember vying for three seats, this could be a tight race. The Club urges Union City voters to re-elect Carol Dutra-Vernaci.
