Vote Environment 2006

Help get out the vote for protecting the environment!

The Chapter's highest current priority is to make a difference in the election, just days away. Your help is needed!

The Sierra Club Bay Chapter has endorsed candidates and ballot measures in every part of the Chapter. These candidates will be the elected officials we rely on for the protection of our environment - locally, across the state, and nationwide. Every endorsed candidate needs the help of Chapter volunteers.

Due to limited resources, we've highlighted the following campaigns for special consideration. If you can only do one thing for the environment this year, please help on one of these important campaigns:

  • Prop 90. This misleading ballot measure would wipe out most regulation of land use throughout California. From coastal protection to zoning to open space purchase to pollution control, this would devastate our ability to hold industry accountable.
  • Albany. Elect Atkinson and Wile to the City Council. The next four years will determine the future of Albany's shoreline. We need Marge and Joanne on the Council to serve as leaders for protection of the shoreline.
  • Fremont. Measure K will protect Coyote Hills Regional Park, a jewel - but under threat of being surrounded by sprawl development and business parks. The wetlands and its native creatures need our help.
  • San Francisco. Chris Daly has been willing to stand against powerful downtown interests - not only for the environment, but also for the needs of the poor and working people. The rich and powerful are sparing no expense, or dirty trick, to defeat him.
