Delta Regional Group:
"Adventures in Peru and the Galapagos Islands"
Wednesday, October 11, 7 pm, Antioch Library, 501 West 18th Street, Antioch.
Delta Group member Tish Brown will present a PowerPoint program about adventures that she and her family had in South America last year. Highlighted is their
cruise to explore the Galapagos Islands at the Equator, 600 miles west of mainland Ecuador. In the nineteenth century Charles Darwin visited these isolated islands, and
his observations of the strange birds and animals here helped inspire his theory of evolution. Today Ecuador carefully regulates the islands as a national park to
preserve their unique ecology. Tish's adventures ranged from observing elderly giant turtles to snorkeling with penguins! Later she and her family traveled to Peru to explore
the high Andes and visit the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu, the "lost city" of the Incas. If there is time, Tish will also include a few highlights of this summer's family
bird-watching safari in Puerto Rico.
We will also discuss current environmental issues and the upcoming November elections. County Supervisors Federal Glover and Mary Piepho have been invited
to join us to speak briefly about community issues they expect to deal with in the year ahead.
Group program meetings are usually held on the third Tuesday or Wednesday in January, March, May, September, and November. To receive a newsletter listing
