Help pass Measure K in Fremont
Initiative will protect Coyote Hills natural area
The Friends of Coyote Hills and Fremont (FCHF), with help from the Sierra Club, collected over 13,000 signatures to place on the ballot the Protect Coyote Hills
Natural Area Initiative. This initiative will zone over 500 acres directly adjacent to Coyote Hills Regional Park as agricultural, allowing at
most eight homes to be built there. The initiative includes an option that would allow up to 100 homes - if significant land is donated to a regional park.
A "development planner" has recently proposed 800 - 1,200 dwelling units, a school, a church, a sports facility, and 40,000 square feet of retail space on the site.
This level of development would irrevocably alter the landscape and have negative impacts on the park itself. The initiative will prevent such excessive development.
The initiative could only be altered by a subsequent vote of the people.
FCHF is working hard to run an effective campaign to win in November. We've hired a campaign manager, and are raising funds and assembling a team of volunteers.
We could use your help! We want to send out three or four sets of campaign mailings, conduct phone-banking, and attend local events to make people aware of
the issue. This will require significant time and money. We are up against the deep pockets of the Patterson family and Cargill.
