Donations to Chapter
Several of the Chapter's activity sections have recently made donations to support the Chapter's conservation
efforts. We thank these donors and pledge to use
the funds effectively to advance environmental needs.
The Bay Chapter's Backpack Section has donated $530 to the Chapter.
The Chapter's Snow Camping Section has donated $720.
In addition, we have received a donation of $50 from the El Cerrito Garden Club.
GLS
The Bay Chapter's Gay and Lesbian Sierrans each year makes donations to organizations that promote conservation and have a direct link with GLS or with the
greater lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender community.
GLS' first allegiance is to the Chapter, which provides administrative support,
meeting space, and other benefits throughout the year, and this year has donated
$1000 to it.
Since at least the early 1990s GLS members have participated in monthly work parties with the Corona Heights habitat-restoration project to maintain and restore
the amazing plant diversity in this beautiful natural area just a short walk above San Francisco's Castro district. GLS is giving $500 to help continue this important work
and pay for needed hand tools. For more details, or to sign up for the work party from 10 am to noon on the last Saturday of each month, call Jim Houillion at (415)552-3542.
GLS has donated $500 to support the ongoing care of the National AIDS Memorial Grove in Golden Gate Park.
GLS also gave $500 to the Michelle Mazzei Fund for Environmental Education, in honor of Michelle Mazzei, a former GLS member and fourth-grade teacher who
was involved in environmental education at the time of her death last fall. The fund will be administered by Environmental Volunteers, a nonprofit organization that
provides classroom and outdoor education to K - 8 students in San Mateo and Santa Clara
Counties, helping them to understand, appreciate, and protect the natural world
around them.
