Re-elect Leno to Assembly
The Sierra Club has endorsed Mark Leno for re-election to the California State Assembly
(District 13 - San Francisco).
In his first term Assemblymember Leno was among those who helped pass landmark environmental
legislation that will strengthen forestry protection, clean the air in the Central Valley, and
protect our rivers and streams from chemical pollution. In 2005, Mark again earned a 100% voting
record on Sierra Club's priority legislation and was outspoken in his advocacy opposing Gov.
Schwarzenegger's special election.
Mark Leno continues to be a strong advocate for the development of solar energy. He authored
a bill requiring that combustion-operated distributed-generation projects using fossil fuels
meet a more stringent NOx-emission standard to qualify for incentive rebates, and
establishing a credit for combined heat and power units that meet efficiency standards. AB 1099
removed the sunset clause on a tax exemption for the construction or addition of solar-energy
systems on public or private buildings.
Based on his record and his leadership on initiatives such as allowing San Francisco to vote
on vehicle license fees, the Club enthusiastically supports Mark Leno for re-election in the
13th Assembly District.
