Alameda County creeks finally close to protection
The Sierra Club, especially the Southern Alameda Group, has made a significant breakthrough in our effort to protect riparian corridors in Alameda County.
For 29 years the county has been out of compliance with a Specific Plan for the designation and protection of its riparian corridors and creeks. At the
Board of Supervisors meeting on May 4, Supervisor Nate Miley will propose a moratorium on any further development along riparian corridors until the county
can determine how it will comply with its plan. Supervisors Gail Steele, Alice Lai-Bitker, and Miley have pledged to support this moratorium - but it requires one
more vote on the five-member Board.

Ask them to support the Sierra Club's full request for a development moratorium long enough
for the county to determine how to come into compliance with the law and to compensate for 29
years of corridor degradation due to lack of compliance. This must include all riparian
corridors along both intermittent and perennial streams.
Calls to Supervisors Carson and Haggerty are especially urgent.
