Mount Diablo Group: "Bay Area Wildflowers"
Wednesday, March 8, 7 pm, Winslow Center, 2590 Pleasant Hill Road, Pleasant Hill (corner of Taylor Boulevard and Pleasant Hill Road).
Join us at the next general meeting of the Mount Diablo Group for an entertaining and informative evening with ranger-naturalist Mia Monroe. Mia will
present a slide show and talk spotlighting wildflowers of the Bay Area.
Spring is nearly upon us. Our Bay Area hills and valleys will soon be carpeted with flowers of all hues and shapes. This is your chance to bone up on
your wildflower knowledge and learn to identify new species before we hit the trails after the winter rains.
Mia's presentation will include humorous anecdotes about the adventures and misadventures of early botanists, fascinating flower folklore, and
interesting tidbits about the unsung heroes, plant pollinators. Your may never look at a flower quite the same way again.
Mia Monroe is one of the legendary rangers of the National Park Service. She has been stationed at Muir Woods National Monument for nearly 25 years.
Mia currently serves as site supervisor for the Marin Interpretive Area of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, including Muir Woods National Monument,
the Marin Headlands, Stinson Beach, and Olema Valley. She is an authority on monarch
butterflies, and has been published in Wings, the journal of the Xerces Society. She has been the subject of numerous newspaper
and magazine stories.
