This shoreline, having long been used for chemical plants, is severely polluted with toxic chemicals, some of which are known to cause cancer. California's Environmental Protection Agency recently transferred oversight of the ongoing clean-up to the Department of Toxic Substance Control from the San Francisco Bay Water Quality Control District, which had proved unequal to the task. The Group continues to work with the North Richmond Shoreline Open Space Alliance to protect this shoreline, especially Breuner Marsh, from destructive development. To help, contact Norman La Force at (510)526-4362 or email n.laforce-at-comcast.net
