Fine wine to hold the line!
Campaign kick-off to defeat Livermore's Pardee Homes initiative
Sunday, May 22, noon, Retzlaff Vineyards, 1356 South Livermore Avenue, Livermore.
Pardee Homes, a subsidiary of Weyerhaeuser, the logging company, wants to build 2,450 tract
houses on 1,400 acres outside Livermore's Urban Growth Boundary in North Livermore. The project
is called `Livermore Trails', but it is clearly more about sprawl housing and traffic.
The developer has gathered enough signatures to force an election over changing the UGB, and
asked for a special election to be held in June, but the Livermore City Council has instead
added the issue to the Nov. 2 general election. The Friends of Livermore, joined by the Sierra
Club and hundreds of concerned residents, is mobilizing to keep these big developers away from
the prized agricultural and open-space lands in North Livermore. We need your help this summer
to educate the community and spread the word about the real impacts of this project; we will
have a lot of opportunities for you to join in.
To kick off the campaign, the Sierra Club and Friends of Livermore are having a gathering at
the Retzlaff Vineyards in North Livermore. There will be food, drinks, and a chance to meet
other Livermore activists and learn more about how to get involved in the battle against Pardee
Homes.
