Chapter forms Toxics and HazMat Workgroup
Wednesday, May 18, 7 pm, probably at the Marin Link Conference Room, 2620 Northgate
Mall, San Rafael; confirm at http://sanfranciscobay.sierraclub.org/chapter/events/calendar.asp
Join the Bay Chapter's newly forming Toxics and Hazardous Materials Workgroup. We will focus
primarily on implementation of the Sierra Club's Environmentally Hazardous Substances and Pest Management policies. Potential topics include:
- West Nile Virus and responsible mosquito control;
- lawn management;
- weed management;
- non-toxic low-cost housing;
- golf courses;
- proposed use of pesticides by Oakland Wildfire Prevention Assessment District (the Sierra Club opposes the current plan, which is now undergoing
environmental review);
- Integrated Pest Management policies: good and bad;
- safe-neighbor ordinances (to prevent drifting of pesticides and other harmful substances from one property to another);
- safe schools.
The workgroup intends to meet at least quarterly and to rotate meetings between West Bay and
East Bay. It does not plan to take up such concerns as hazardous-waste clean-up, landfills, and
brownfield remediation.

Please attend our meetings scent-free!
