San Francisco Dinner

"Where Have All the Dolphins Gone?"

Thursday, March 17, social hour 6 pm, dinner 7, show 8 - City Forest Lodge, 254 Laguna Honda Boulevard, San Francisco (across from Laguna Honda Hospital and downhill from Forest Hill Station; take Muni's K, L, M, or 43). Come early for street parking (no sidewalk parking please).

There is one society of mammals on this ocean planet who cooperate with each other for the benefit of all their kind. War and poverty are unknown to them. They don't kill or imprison each other, plunder their environment, or burden its resources. We call them dolphins. Although we admire them for their grace, intelligence, and compassion to each other, our activities are pushing some of them to the brink of extinction.

What is it about dolphins that fascinates us? Is it their joy in leaping toward the sky? Is it because they live in harmony with their environment or how they surf the waves? John Lilly told us they have big brains. Ken Norris exposed some of their secrets.

Join Mookeeo (pen name), author of The Dolphins' View trilogy, as he presents the poignant and fascinating story of dolphins in distress and what we need to do to save them. Mookeeoo offers a unique perspective, writing and speaking about how dolphins might perceive humans. They have been known to rescue us and befriend us without seeking a mutual advantage for themselves. Dolphins come alive inside the pages of his books with fun-loving dolphinalities while they address the lack of stewardship of the oceans, expose our faults, and show us a better way. For more information, visit www.thedolphinsview.com

Although Mookeeo has a master's degree (in public policy) from UC Berkeley, he is self-educated about whales and dolphins. His passion for them has led him to read and research every book he could find and to interview prominent marine biologists and government officials responsible for cetaceans. He has swum with dolphins and kayaked with orcas, and addresses what they might say if they could communicate with us. Mookeeo lives in Berkeley, serves on the Board of Directors for the California Writers Club, and is a volunteer educator for the Marine Mammal Center.
