Annual Awards Banquet

Friday, October 8, no-host cocktails 6 pm, dinner 7, at the Spinnaker Restaurant in Sausalito

Come to the Sierra Club Marin Group's sixth Annual Awards Banquet, the Group's major fundraiser of the year.

We welcome keynote speaker Carole Migden, chair of the California Board of Equalization and formerly a state assemblymember and San Francisco supervisor. She is currently a candidate for state Senate in District 3. She will share with us her ideas about "Saving California's Environment: Why This Election is So Crucial". Marin political columnist Dick Spotswood will be our MC for the evening.

This year we present the Hannah Creighton Environmental Justice Award to Marilee Eckert, executive director of the Marin Conservation Corps. Under Marilee's guidance since 1992, the Corps has become a place where youth can succeed, earn a high-school diploma, and apply their talents working on habitat-restoration teams and connecting these experiences to academic core concepts. Hannah Creighton, who passed away in 1998, was an editor of Race, Poverty and the Environment. She founded group Marin Advocates for Transit, which works for enhanced transit service throughout the county. She was always concerned about environmental education and opportunities for those in need.

The Resource Conservation Award will be presented to Priscilla Bull for her lifetime of dedication to the preservation of Marin's environmental resources. A special recognition will be presented to longtime Sierra Club hike leader Richard Watson, the Marin Group's activity and outings co-chair.

Join us in honoring these extraordinary environmental activists. Come socialize with other environmentalists, and become informed and energized before the November election.
