Energy Committee: Solar Home Tour

Saturday, October 2.

As California braces for another summer of record-setting electricity consumption, we begin to wonder: "What if I could contribute to solving this Energy crisis?" What if I could help shift our generation of electricity away from fossil fuels and nuclear power towards renewable sources? What if I could make my utility meter run backwards?"

On Sat., Oct. 2, individuals who considered and acted upon these same issues will open their homes and businesses throughout the nation to celebrate national Energy Awareness Month. Featuring a range of designs, prices, and solar applications, each local tour will showcase different building materials, technologies, and techniques. Consumers can personally experience different systems, ask questions, and get tips from homeowners and experts about the economical comfort of solar living. For anyone considering building, remodeling, or refinancing a home, or just wanting to consider a clean, economical energy alternative, the Solar Home Tour could provide valuable insight and answers.

The Bay Chapter's Energy Committee is organizing a local tour in Oakland, as part of the larger effort coordinated by the Northern California Solar Energy Association. This tour will feature educational exhibits. It can be completed by carpool or bicycle, and is accessible by public transportation. For more information regarding this tour or any other tour within the Bay Area Chapter, see www.norcalsolar.org/tour/index.htm or (510) 703-3748 .
