San Francisco Dinner"Sustainable seafood - your role in saving world fisheries"Thursday, October 21, social hour 6 pm, dinner 7, show 8 - City Forest Lodge, 254 Laguna Honda Boulevard, San Francisco (across from Laguna Honda Hospital and downhill from Forest Hill Station; take Muni's K, L, M, or 43). Come early for street parking (no sidewalk parking please). There is growing concern around the world about the plight of world fisheries, 60% of which are over-fished. Destructive fishing practices destroy ocean habitats, in turn decreasing fish populations. Accidental harvesting of non-target species such as sea turtles, dolphins, otters, and whales does more damage. The good news is that this situation can be reversed. By harvesting seafood sustainably, we can allow rebuilding of fish populations, ensuring the longevity of fisheries and our supply of seafood. Consumers are increasingly aware of the problems. A number of changes in the entire seafood distribution channel - from ocean to point of sale - need to be made in order to provide consumers with accurately labeled sustainable seafood.
