San Francisco: livable cities from a green point of view
An urban outing from Greenbelt Alliance and the Sierra Club Bay Chapter
Saturday, June 26, 10 am sharp to 1 pm; meet at One Church Street (north of Market).
Why are environmentalists talking about livable communities and smart growth? Can higher-density urban neighborhoods be a viable and attractive alternative to rampant sprawl development? A morning presentation by planners, environmental organizations, and community activists explores these and other questions.
Then a walking tour of the area around Church and Market Streets will show examples of transit-oriented development, mixed-income and infill housing, re-use of historic structures, pedestrian improvements, parks, and other key elements of a thriving urban neighborhood.
Speakers include John Bilovitz of the San Francisco Planning Department, David Goldstein of the Natural Resources Defense Council, and Evelyn Stivers of Greenbelt Alliance.
RSVPs are appreciated; call (415) 543-6771, ext. 314.
