Public speaks out 10 - 1 against Palos Colorados permit!

Sen. Tom Torlakson supports project, however

By a 10 - 1 margin, speakers urged the Army Corps of Engineers to deny a permit for the proposed Palos Colorados development in Moraga (see previous article).

The Corps' May 20 hearing completely filled the 294-seat auditorium at Miramonte High School! The message was loud and clear: the environmental impacts from this project are unacceptable.

It will most likely be many months before the Corps announces any decision on the permit application. In addition, required permits from the Regional Water Quality Control Board and the state Department of Fish and Game are nowhere near approval.

The one dramatic disappointment at the hearing was the appearance of a representative for state Sen. Tom Torlakson, who announced that Sen. Torlakson supports the construction of the project as proposed, and urges the Army Corps to promptly grant the permit. Richland Development Corp., would-be developer of Palos Colorados, has been a major financial contributor to Sen. Torlakson over the past several years.
