Always bring lunch and water. Consider layered clothing, sunscreen and hiking poles.
Canine hikers should also bring leashes, litter bags, and water for their dogs.

Piedmont Architectural Walk.  An architectural walk past Piedmont mansions, emphasizing homes designed by Julia Morgan. Moderate-to-leisurely pace, but walk takes all day returning about 5 pm. Optional post-walk dinner at local restaurant. Rain cancels.  Bring: $ for optional post-hike dinner. Meet: 9:45 am on Piedmont Elementary School lawn at corner of Piedmont Avenue and Echo Street in Oakland. Directions: Echo is at upper end of Piedmont Avenue near Pleasant Valley Road. San Bruno Mountain.  Explore San Bruno Mountain with San Bruno Mountain Watch, a group dedicated to protecting the Mountain and its rare plants and endangered Mission Blue, Elfin, and Silverspot butterflies.  Bring: wind/ sun protection. Wear sturdy shoes and long pants. Meet: 10 am at the San Bruno Mountain Watch office, 44 Visitacion Avenue, Brisbane. Directions: drivers take Bayshore Boulevard to Old County Road, main entrance to Brisbane. Pass city park, and go straight up Visitacion. Or take #292 SamTrans bus, departing 9:12 from Transbay Terminal; five minute walk to meeting place. Call SamTrans at (800)660-4287 for northbound bus information. Marina Green to Beach Chalet.  West end of Marina Green through Presidio's Crissy Field, up at Golden Gate Bridge along coastal trail past Baker's Beach to Sea Cliff (see Robin William's humble abode) and then along coastal trail to Cliff House and Beach Chalet. Six miles one way, end 4 pm-ish. Drizzle OK, rain cancels. Optional post-hike dinner/beverages.  Meet: 12 noon at west end of Marina Green parking lot (near St Francis Yacht Club). Directions: parking lot north end of Marina Green off Marina Boulevard, north of yacht harbor, and before Crissy Field. Carpooling: call leader to arrange shuttles. Scenic Corte Madera hills.  Mostly steep trails, fireroad, stairs and lanes on hills and ridges. Good views, nice waterfall and creek if recent rain. Back mid-afternoon. Heavy rain cancels, showers may modify.  Meet: 8:30 am by restrooms at near end of tennis courts across from the Post Office on west side of big, green town park, about 0.75 mile west of Highway 101 in Corte Madera. Directions: exit Highway 101 at Tamalpais/Paradise Drives. Go west on Tamalpais, turn right on Pixley Avenue, at far side of town park, and take first right into big lot. Angel Island hike and picnic.  A moderate hike over and around Angel Island with a potluck beach picnic. Spectacular views of all the Bay. We go to the top of Mount Livermore, and then have lunch on the beach. Bring a great potluck dish for six hikers to share. Back by 4 pm.  Meet: 9:45 am at the Angel Island ferry dock in Tiburon. Warm weather Tilden.  Hike on Wildcat Peak, Nimitz , Curran and other trails for wonderful views, plus a walk through the Rotary Peace Grove.  Bring: water lots of it if it's hot. Ohlone (Siplichiquin) Village Sites.  A visit to Indian shellmounds: life-in-place along the Bayside ridges with San Bruno Mountain Watch. A hike through 5000 years of human presence and the intricate balance of the original San Francisco Bay people; native plants to crystals to grizzly bears.  Bring: wind/ sun protection. Alamere Falls.  A scenic hike to Bass Lake for lunch, and then to large waterfall on beach (9 miles round-trip). Moderate-to-leisurely pace. Hike ends about 5:30 pm. Meet: 11 am in Palomarin Trailhead parking lot at end of Mesa Road in Point Reyes National Seashore. Directions: from Highway 1 north of Stinson Beach, take unmarked road on left at top of Bolinas Lagoon to Bolinas. Chabot Explorations.  Enjoy a summer afternoon and evening on the trail, finishing by the light of the August full moon (approximately 11 pm).  Meet: 4:45 pm outside the entrance to the Lake Chabot Marina on Fairmont Drive (park on Fairmont). Directions: take Fairmont Drive exit off 580, east on Fairmont over the hill to Lake Chabot Marina. Carpooling: leader at Rockridge BART by base of steps on east side of College Avenue at 4 pm. Ocean View Trail.  Two moderate hikes from Rock Spring to the top of Cataract Falls with a continuous view of the ocean and Stinson Beach. Night picnic on Ring Mountain.  An easy hike and potluck dinner on top of Ring Mountain in Tiburon. Hike to the top - with 360 degree views - and share the food and drink for SIX HIKERS that you have carried up the hill. Sunset 7:45 pm; bring warm clothes. FLASHLIGHT IS A MUST.  Meet: 5:45 pm at the Ring Mountain trailhead on Paradise Drive, one mile east of the Corte Madera exit from Highway 101. Roadside parking. Redwood Regional Park.  Hike through the redwoods primarily in the shade on various trails on the west side of the park.  Bring: lots of water if it's warm. Meet: 9:30 at the Canyon Meadow Staging Area. Directions: take Redwood Road in Oakland, cross Skyline Boulevard, left into park entrance, drive to end of road. Aug 23  Sat     1A hike
Ashbury Heights and nearby parks.  A relaxed and very slow hike with several rest stops. Route includes pathways, a few stairways and architectural treasures in Ashbury Heights, Buena Vista Park and eastern Golden Gate Park. Some steep climbs. Hike ends around 5:15 pm in time for optional dinner. No need to register but rain cancels.  Bring: This is a city hike but it is still necessary to bring lunch and liquids. Meet: 11:45 am outside Irving and Arguello entrance to UCSF. Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve.  Redwoods, creeks and coastal views are featured on this route.  Meet: 11:15 am at main preserve parking lot. Directions: from Highway 101 or 280, take Highway 92 west towards Half Moon Bay. Go left (south) at Skyline Boulevard, Highway 35, 4.5 miles to preserve entrance.
