CleanPowerSF

CleanPowerSF is San Francisco's Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program. CCA's offer cities and counties the opportunity to aggregate their purchasing power in order to provide greater renewable energy than traditional Investor Owned Utilities (IOU's). The Bay Chapter of the Sierra Club and other local clean energy advocates have been hard at work trying to make CleanPowerSF a reality, and we are close to seeing that happen.

Local advocates have been pressuring the San Francisco Public Utility Commission (SFPUC) and the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo) to move forward with a plan that would ensure local renewable electricity generation and energy efficiency, green jobs, and competitive rates. The local build-out plan is underway, and should be completed by the summer of 2012.

The SFPUC and the San Francisco Board of Supervisors are also in contract negotiations to purchase renewable power on the open market. CleanPowerSF will need to purchase electric power at the start of the program to ensure power to its customers. The contract will include a substitution clause to replace power purchased on the open market with local renewable generated power. The San Francisco Bay Chapter of the Sierra Club will continue to make CleanPowerSF a top priority in 2012, and ensure that the program adheres to the highest standards possible.
