Vote no on Measure F in Novato

The Sierra Club urges voters in the Novato Sanitary District (NSD) to vote no on Measure F. Don't allow privatization of our sewage treatment.

NSD, after more that 80 years of serving the needs of the residents of Novato, has contracted for a private French company, Veolia Water West, to run the District's new $90 million wastewater treatment facility.

The current District employees are well-qualified to run the new facility. Concerned citizens of the District collected enough signatures to qualify a referendum on the matter for the June 8 election.

Sewage treatment is a key public environmental function, and the Sierra Club opposes privatization of such services.

The contract is not in the public interest. In last November's election, however, the incumbents who had supported the contract received very large campaign contributions from Veolia. Even so, the top vote-getter ran on his opposition to the contract. Two incumbents were also re-elected.
