2009 Regional Transportation Plan on right track
On July 23 the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) adopted a draft investment plan for the 2009 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) that has some great new investments.
Thanks to the many organizations and advocates who worked so hard for programs that can improve mobility while simultaneously decreasing global-warming emissions and improving public health. These include:
- a new Climate Change program;
- a regional Safe Routes to Schools grant program;
- greatly expanded funding for MTC's Livable Communities program, the Regional Bicycle Network, and Safe Routes to Schools.
Over the next six months the focus will turn towards policies that can further leverage RTP funding, such as prioritization of funds for areas anticipating significant new infill development. The final RTP investment package and supportive policies will be adopted next February.
