Delta Regional Group
"Adventures in Opposite Hemispheres"
Wednesday, June 7 (note changed date) - 7 pm, Antioch Library, 501 West 18th Street, Antioch.
Summer is time for vacation travel and adventure - and the program for June's general meeting of the Delta Group is all that and more. Last summer two members
of our Delta Group Executive Committee, Tish Brown and Mitch Schweickert, visited opposite sides of the globe.
Tish traveled to South America, cruising to explore the Galapagos Islands at the Equator, 600 miles east of Ecuador. In the 19th century, after observing the
strange birds and other animals of these isolated islands, Charles Darwin was inspired to develop his theory of evolution. Today the islands are regulated as a national park
by Ecuador to preserve their unique ecology. Tish's adventures ranged from observing elderly giant turtles to snorkeling with penguins! Later
she and her family traveled to Peru to explore the high Andes and visit the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu, the "lost city" of the Incas.
Meanwhile, Mitch and family were touring on the other side of the planet in northern Europe. They visited some of the birthplaces of great art, literature, drama,
music, scientific discoveries, and political and religious beliefs - in Luxembourg, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Denmark. And in London, Mitch nearly got
bombed - without ever setting foot in the pubs!
Join us as Tish and Mitch share their travels and photos with us and describe their worldwide adventures. We'll also have time to socialize and munch goodies,
and briefly to discuss current environmental issues and upcoming summer activities.
Group program meetings are usually held on the third Tuesday or Wednesday in January, March, May, September, and November. To receive a newsletter listing Delta
Group programs, outings, and activities, send a check for $5, payable to "Sierra Club, Delta Group", to:
