FEATURE STORIES

Where our money comes from - and goes

The bottom line of the Bay Chapter's budget is simple: we depend on you.

Only about 21% of our budget comes from the national Sierra Club - not even enough to cover our basic membership services. The bulk of our budget (73%) comes as donations from you - our members and loyal supporters.

Our budget is constructed very conservatively. In it, 34% is assigned to conservation, but this doesn't tell the whole story. The 13% that pays for publications pays for all the conservation information that appears in the Yodeler. The 6% that goes to Sierra Club California and the regional groups goes almost entirely to their conservation efforts. We budget 24% to support fundraising - and we instruct our member-outreach staff to include a clear conservation message in every phone call they make. Every Chapter effort is focused on our central conservation efforts.
