Activities and Outings
Getting Outdoors:
The local Sierra Club organizes a very active and diverse calendar of outdoor activities in and around SF, the Bay Area and beyond - all for free or minimal cost. From hiking and bike trips to urban walks, river whitewater, snow camping, ski touring, backpacking, singles events for young and old, and service trips for disadvantaged urban youth - all volunteer member-driven. An on-line outings calendar is maintained at http://sanfranciscobay.sierraclub.org/chapter/events/calendar.asp More offerings are listed within specific activity sections - such as the ever popular Hiking Section SF Bay Hiking .
Other Activities:
Habitat-restoration Work Parties
The San Francisco Group is excited to announce a new series of "urban wilderness" adventures: habitat-restoration work parties with the Natural Areas Program (NAP) of the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department. Come learn about botany and ecology, exercise your green thumbs, enjoy entertaining camaraderie, and examine public-lands management issues in some of the most spectacular parts of San Francisco you didn't know still existed! These events are led by NAP staff, who provide expertise, tools, and direction.
San Francisco Dinners
San Francisco Dinners are held on the third Thursday of the month, except for June, July, August and December and include a slide program depicting round-the-world adventures and ecology. Our dinner series - a celebrated tradition going on some 30 years now and attended by literally thousands of local Sierrans (only 100 or so per evening) - are held at City Forest Lodge, 254 Laguna Honda Blvd.
