August 2003

 Dear Friend of the Environment,

The Sierra Club Marin Group invites you to participate as a sponsor for our 5th Annual Awards Banquet to be held Friday, October 24, 2003 at the scenic Spinnaker Restaurant in Sausalito. This year we are pleased to present Supervisor Susan Adams with our Resource Conservation Award and Trips for Kids, a non-profit organization offering mountain bike trips to at-risk youth, the Hannah Creighton Environmental Justice Award. These awards recognize excellence in service of Marin’s environment.

We are delighted to have Mark Hertsgaard, independent journalist and author of five books, the most recent of which is The Eagle’s Shadow: Why America Fascinates and Infuriates the World, to share his insights on current environmental and political considerations as our keynote speaker. Pacific Sun columnist and satirical radio commentator, Stan Sinberg, will be our emcee for the evening.

This event is the Sierra Club Marin Group’s major fundraiser of the year. Please subscribe at one of the following levels to support our work and make this event a success:

Champion:      $1000 to reserve a table for eight, featured in the Program, 8 organic cotton t-shirts, verbal acknowledgement at Banquet and your name in print on our web site

Steward:          $ 500 for four tickets, recognition in the Program, 4 organic cotton t-shirts and verbal acknowledgement at Banquet

Guardian:        $ 250 for two tickets, your name in the Program and two organic cotton t-shirts

Protector:       $ 100 for one ticket and your name in the Program

In the past year, Sierra Club Marin Group: endorsed and celebrated Susan Adams’ successful election to the Marin County Board of Supervisors, which resulted in the preservation of St. Vincent/Silveira lands; supported the Tamalpais Conservation Club trails lawsuit asking the state for an environmental impact report on the effect of turning fire roads into multi-use trails on Mt. Tamalpais; successfully opposed monster homes on agricultural land overlooking Tomales Bay and worked with the Tam Gateway Coalition to support the recently approved Fireside affordable housing project. In addition to participating in the County general plan update and Community Marin, we are currently working to oppose the casino at Port Sonoma and evaluating a sales tax measure for Marin to support improved traffic mobility. Please join us on October 24th. Add your name as “Sponsor” to our invitation and program by filling out and returning the enclosed card by August 29th. If you would like more information, please call Christine at (415) 868-0310 or email balanceact@mindspring.com.
