San Bruno Mountain.  Explore San Bruno Mountain with San Bruno Mountain Watch, a group dedicated to protecting the Mountain and its rare plants and endangered Mission Blue, Elfin, and Silverspot butterflies.  Bring: wind/ sun protection. Wear sturdy shoes and long pants. Meet: 10 am at the San Bruno Mountain Watch office, 44 Visitacion Avenue, Brisbane. Directions: drivers take Bayshore Boulevard to Old County Road, main entrance to Brisbane. Pass city park, and go straight up Visitacion. Ohlone (Siplichiquin) Village Sites.  A visit to Indian shellmounds: life-in-place along the Bayside ridges with San Bruno Mountain Watch. A hike through 5000 years of human presence and the intricate balance of the original San Francisco Bay people; native plants to crystals to grizzly bears.  Bring: wind/ sun protection. Wear sturdy shoes and long pants. Meet: 10 am at the San Bruno Mountain Watch office, 44 Visitacion Avenue, Brisbane. San Francisco historical walk.  New coastal trails, Presidio cemetery, sand dunes, Mount Davidson, Sunnyside Conservatory, Glen Canyon.  Bring: lunch, hat, water, windbreaker, hiking boots. Meet: 9:30 am at the Glen Park BART station, Diamond and Bosworth. Carpooling: 10 am to Presidio Golf course parking lot on Arguello and Lake. Colma cemetery walk.  An historical walk through many cemeteries of Colma, the "City of Souls." This walk is Part 1. Part 2 is in Oct-Nov. Nowhere to buy lunch, so bring lunch. Moderate-to-leisurely pace, but walk takes all day and returns to Colma BART about 5:30 pm. Optional post-walk dinner at local restaurant. Rain cancels.  Bring: $ for optional post-hike dinner. Mission Bay tour.  Once part of San Francisco Bay, this was filled in and used as a railroad yard. Mission Bay is now being rebuilt as a biotech research center, a new UCSF hospital and a new residential neighborhood.  Meet: 1 pm in the plaza at 4th and King Streets, next to the Caltrain station in San Francisco. Pescadero Creek County Park.  Explore less traveled territory through first and second growth redwoods. Moderate pace.  Meet: 10 am at the parking area for Sam McDonald Park, off Pescadero Road in La Honda. Directions: from Highways 280 or 101, take Highway 84 (Woodside Road) west to Pescadero Road in La Honda (about 14 miles west of Hwy 280). Go six miles to the park entrance on Pescadero Road. Glen Park to the Mission District.  A relaxed and very slow hike featuring scenic views, parks, interesting buildings and a few stairways. Several rest stops. Route includes Bernal Heights and Holly Park. Some steep climbs. Hike ends around 5:15 pm in time for optional dinner. No need to register but rain cancels.  Bring: this is a city hike, but it is still necessary to bring lunch and liquids. Also coins for return by BART. Hidden Golden Gate Park.  An extensive walk in seldom seen parts of Golden Gate Park. Lunch about 2 pm at Dutch Windmill near Safeway deli. Mosaics of San Francisco, part 4 South of Market.  A moderately paced walk to admire mosaics, murals and sculptures in the Mission, Bernal Heights, Holly Park, Potrero Hill and SOM, ending under the dome at the new Bloomingdales' Mall. Marina Green to Beach Chalet.  West end of Marina Green through Presidio's Crissy Field, up at Golden Gate Bridge along coastal trail past Baker's Beach to Sea Cliff (see Robin William's humble abode) and then along coastal trail to Cliff House and Beach Chalet. Six miles one way, end 4 pm-ish. Drizzle OK, rain cancels. Optional post-hike dinner/beverages.  Meet: 12 noon at west end of Marina Green parking lot (near St Francis Yacht Club). Directions: parking lot north end of Marina Green off Marina Boulevard, north of yacht harbor, and before Crissy Field. Carpooling: call leader to arrange shuttles. Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve.  Redwoods, creeks and coastal views are featured on this route.  Meet: 11:15 am at main preserve parking lot. Directions: from Highway 101 or 280, take Highway 92 west towards Half Moon Bay. Go left (south) at Skyline Boulevard, Highway 35, 4.5 miles to preserve entrance. Castle Rock State Park.  Moderate to leisurely paced hike featuring impressive waterfall and spectacular rock scenery. Return to trailhead about 5:30 pm. San Francisco to Sausalito via the Marin Headlands.  Leave your car behind for an urban hike through the northern tier of San Francisco, across the Golden Gate Bridge and over the Marin Headlands into Sausalito. Great views on this route!.  Bring: lunch, weather-appropriate clothing, $ for return on 6:20 pm Golden Gate Ferry. Meet: 10 am at Justin Herman Plaza (Embarcadero Center), by the Hyatt Regency stairway. Directions: Transit accessible via BART or MUNI to the Embarcadero Station.
