Always bring lunch and water. Consider layered clothing, sunscreen and hiking poles.
Canine hikers should also bring leashes, litter bags, and water for their dogs.

Three Lakes and Pilot Knob.  A delightful stroll around the three lakes of northside Mount Tamalpais: Bon Tempe, Lagunitas and Alpine, plus great views from Pilot Knob. Back by 4 pm.  Meet: 9:30 am at Fairfax Parkade (opposite Fairfax Theater) for carpools. Cost: $7/car MMWD entrance fee or annual pass. Audubon Canyon Ranch to Mountain Home Inn.  At this time of the year, the great egrets are raising their young in large nests atop the fir trees. We'll view this for a short while before heading uphill to Bolinas Ridge and the Coastal Trail. Afterwards, we'll hike eastward over the main ridge of Mount Tamalpais and down to Mountain Home. Approximately 12 miles. Return time: 5-6 pm. For those who want a shorter trip, it's possible to hike downhill from the Coastal Trail to Stinson Beach or to Pantoll and catch the Stagecoach back to Mountain Home.  Meet: 9 am at Mountain Home Inn bus stop to catch the 9:15 West Marin Stagecoach to the Audubon Canyon Ranch. Five Brooks loop.  Hike from Five Brooks up and over Firtop Mountain down to the coast where we will have lunch and soak in the magnificent scenery. Head back to the trailhead over Inverness Ridge. Enjoy meadows, forests and ocean views on this strenuous hike. Total miles are around 16.5 and the pace is moderate to brisk. The Bay Model and bayside hike.  Two easy hikes from East Blithedale Avenue in Mill Valley along the Bay Trail to see the Bay Model, birds and dogs in Sausalito. Mission Bay tour.  Once part of San Francisco Bay, this was filled in and used as a railroad yard. Mission Bay is now being rebuilt as a biotech research center, a new UCSF hospital and a new residential neighborhood.  Meet: 1 pm in the plaza at 4th and King Streets, next to the Caltrain station in San Francisco. San Bruno Mountain.  Explore San Bruno Mountain with San Bruno Mountain Watch, a group dedicated to protecting the Mountain and its rare plants and endangered Mission Blue, Elfin, and Silverspot butterflies.  Bring: wind/ sun protection. Wear sturdy shoes and long pants. Meet: 10 am at the San Bruno Mountain Watch office, 44 Visitacion Avenue, Brisbane. Directions: drivers take Bayshore Boulevard to Old County Road, main entrance to Brisbane. Pass city park, and go straight up Visitacion. Redwood Regional Park.  Enjoy a leisurely-to-somewhat slowly paced hike featuring some of the best scenery Redwood Park has to offer.  Meet: 10 am at Orchard Parking lot. Directions: from Highway 13, take Redwood Road about 2 miles past Skyline Boulevard. intersection, turn left into park, follow road past toll booth to parking lot at end of road. Mount Tamalpais hikeathon.  31-mile hike through portions of GGNRA, Muir Woods, MMWD, and Mount Tamalpais. Beautiful views (assuming there's no fog) and over 6300 feet of cumulative elevation gain. Experienced long distance hikers only. No part-way hikers.  Bring: lunch, snacks, potluck dish to share at post-hike celebration (leaders will provide beverages). Bring jacket for possible wind. Deer Park and the lakes.  Medium pace, several long, steep ups and downs, compensated by a lovely lunch spot and a chance to rest knees. Many nice trails, some fire roads, and lots of good views. Pescadero Creek County Park.  Explore less traveled territory through first and second growth redwoods. Moderate pace.  Meet: 10 am at the parking area for Sam McDonald Park, off Pescadero Road in La Honda. Directions: from Highways 280 or 101, take Highway 84 (Woodside Road) west to Pescadero Road in La Honda (about 14 miles west of Hwy 280). Go six miles to the park entrance on Pescadero Road. Bear Valley to Glen Camp.  Hike from Bear Valley up the Meadow trail out to Glen Camp and then out to the coast. Enjoy spectacular views of Drakes Bay, Point Resistance and Double Point. Work our way back to Bear Valley via the Sky and Old Pine trails. Enjoy a special tour of Point Reyes on this strenuous 16 mile hike. 5th Annual 22-mile longest-day hike at Point Reyes.  Celebrate the solstice by savoring the beaches, forests, and berries of Point Reyes on this moderately-paced (steady 2.7 mph) long loop (22 mi., 3500' elevation gain) that includes Arch Rock and Alamere Falls. Experienced hikers only - call leader if you have not hiked with him before. This hike commemorates the late Bruce Williams, who annually led a similar Solstice hike. Finish 7:30 pm, followed by post-hike libations at picnic area, and optional post-hike dinner at local cafe. Glen Park to the Mission District.  A relaxed and very slow hike featuring scenic views, parks, interesting buildings and a few stairways. Several rest stops. Route includes Bernal Heights and Holly Park. Some steep climbs. Hike ends around 5:15 pm in time for optional dinner. No need to register but rain cancels.  Bring: this is a city hike, but it is still necessary to bring lunch and liquids. Also coins for return by BART.
